Director Ameer took to social media to share his criticism of Vijay's Jana Nayagan, which was discovered to be leaked online. The actor-director criticised the representation of Muslims in the film.

Through his WhatsApp status, the director wrote, "Even in the leaked footage of Jana Nayagan, are Muslims still terrorists? Is this your politics? When will this mindset change?"

Social media users subsequently hit out against the director, saying that watching a pirated film and criticising it, is unethical.

Earlier, the director also spoke against the delay in the release of Jana Nayagan, commenting the Central Board of Film Certfication's decision to re-evaluate the film, with a different committee.

The actor-director has also been critical of Vijay, saying that Vijay shouldn't have conducted a Women's Day event, after the actor-politician's wife, Sankgeetha filed for divorce.
