Karthik Subbaraj, who last made Retro with Suriya, has been lately active in the production space, backing up-and-coming directors with interesting scripts through his banner Stone Bench. However, the query on which film he's working remains. While he previously revealed that he is working on an independent film, he shared a few details about it in a recent interview.
Talking to Galatta Plus while promoting his upcoming production Neelira, Karthik Subbaraj said, "I have completed working on the new film which will have freshers headlining it. It is currently in post-production and details regarding it will be revealed soon." In another interview, the Jigarthanda filmmaker said it will be released in festival circuits before it hits theatres in India.
Previously, he revealed that he has an idea for Mahaan 2 and is actively working towards developing the same. Karthik Subbaraj said, "I have a small idea for Mahaan 2, but I will need to write it. It'll be 2027-2028 by the time the film happens."
He is also joining hands with Guneet Monga and Achin Jain's Sikhya Entertainment for a Tamil film which began production in Madurai in November last year. Details regarding it are currently unknown.
Karthik's upcoming production Neelira, which he has backed alongside Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media, stars Naveen Chandra, Sananth, Roopa Koduvayur, Vidhu, Kapila Venu, Rohit D Kokate, Kayal Vincent, Swathy Krishnan, and others. Set in 1988, in Northern Srilanka, the recently-released trailer opens with a preparation for a wedding, which is suddenly halted, when a group of soldiers attack the home of the bride's family.
Written and directed by Somatheeran in his directorial debut, the film hits theatres on April 3.
