

While Karthik Subbaraj's filmography is filled with many critically acclaimed films, one among them that continues to remain in discussion is Mahaan (2022), starring Vikram and Dhruv Vikram in the lead. Four years after its release, the filmmaker has now revealed that he has an idea for the sequel to the action entertainer and is actively working towards developing the same.
When he was probed by a reporter recently, Karthik Subbaraj said, "I have a small idea for Mahaan 2, but I will need to write it. It'll be 2027-2028 by the time the film happens." Further, he said he is involved in making an indie film. While an official confirmation regarding the sequel is awaited, fans are eagerly anticipating yet another reunion between Vikram and Dhruv Vikram in it.
Mahaan released directly on OTT platform Prime Video in February 2022, during the coronavirus pandemic.
The film, which earned positive responses from critics and audiences, also starred Simran, Bobby Simha, Aadukalam Naren, Sananth, Balaji Shakthivel, and others. Based on Gandhian principles, Mahaan revolves around Gandhi Mahaan (Vikram), a middle-aged schoolteacher who, after being abandoned by his family for one small mistake, embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Going against his Gandhian principles, he soon becomes a proud billionaire, but it comes with its own challenges.
Backed by SS Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, Mahaan's technical crew comprises cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, editing by Vivek Harshan and music direction by Santhosh Narayanan.
