Mayor of Edmonton says “it’s an incredible honour” to meet Kamal Haasan as he attends Indian Film Festival of Alberta

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is currently in Canada, visiting the city of Edmonton, after attending the Indian Film Festival of Alberta. The Mayor of Edmonton, a city in Alberta, Canada, has taken to his official Instagram handle to pen a note on meeting the seasoned actor and to share photos.

The mayor, Amarjeet Sohi, wrote, "Today I had the pleasure of welcoming the legendary actor, writer, director, politician, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and National Award winner Kamal Haasan as he visits Edmonton as part of the India Film Festival of Alberta 2025 celebrations. It’s an incredible honour to meet such an influential artist whose work has inspired millions worldwide. Looking forward to the continued collaboration and cultural exchange that brings our communities closer."

Further, the official Instagram handle of the Indian Film Festival of Alberta also shared photos of the Vikram actor addressing the audience there. As per the official handle, Kamal Haasan is paying a visit to Canada after 28 years. The film festival was split into three phases, happening in Edmonton, Calgary and Sherwood Park. It started on September 5 and concluded on September 28, with three days dedicated to each city. While he was initially set to pay a visit in the first week of September, his visit was later postponed to September 18, as he was held with political commitments. Actor Sivakarthikeyan and director Rajkumar Periasamy were also among the guests who attended the film festval.

On the work front, Kamal Haasan was last seen in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life. He is working on his next, helmed by stunt choreographer Anbariv, tentatively titled KH 237. He also has Indian 3 and Kalki 2 in the pipeline
