Actor Kamal Haasan was all in praise of four-year-old Treesha Thosar, who recently won the National Award for the Best Child Artist. The Thug life star appreciated her "incredible talent" and encouraged her to hone it. He also expressed his pride on the kid breaking his record as the youngest-ever person to be awarded the honour.

"Dear Ms. Treesha Thoshar, my loudest applause goes to you. You’ve beaten my record, as I was already six when I got my first award! Way to go madam. Keep working on your incredible talent. My appreciation to your elders in the house," he wrote on his X handle. He also made a personal video call to her in order to appreciate her massive feat.

Treesha Thosar won the honour at the recent 71st National Film Awards her performance in the 2023 Marathi film Naal 2. Dressed in an off-white saree, Treesha took to stage and bowed to the attendees before receiving the award, evoking thunderous applause from all celebrities, especially Shah Rukh Khan who cheered with enthusiasm for her.

For the uninitiated, Kamal Haasan had won the President's Gold Medal for his performance in his debut film Kalathur Kannamma (1960). It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil.

Written and directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti, and produced by Nagraj Manjule, Naal 2 is the sequel to the 2018 film Naal which, interestingly, was also a National Award-winning film. Nagraj Manjule also plays a key role along with Shrinivas Pokale, Devika Daftardar, Deepti Devi and Jitendra Joshi. The film also won Best Children's Film at the event, along with several accolades at the Maharashtra State Film Awards.

Treesha shared the award with her Naal 2 co-stars Shrinivas Pokale and Bhargav Jagtap. Director Sukumar's 15-year-old daughter Sukriti Veni Bandreddi was also honoured with the National Award for Best Child Artist for the Telugu film Gandhi Tatha Chettu. Along with her, Kabir Khandare also won the award for the Marathi film Gypsy.
