Vishnu Vishal recently talked about how his films Ratsasan and Gatta Kusthi gave him nationwide recognition. In a recent conversation with CE, he also weighed in on the discourse around what makes a film the so-called 'Pan-India' film. "I am not a fan of mounting a project bringing in talents from different industries and labelling it as a pan-Indian film," he told CE. However, there is a film that Vishnu considers the first pan-Indian blockbuster: Rajinikanth and Shankar's Enthiran. "According to me, Enthiran is the first pan-India blockbuster, so we have started it," he told The Hindu. The actor added, referring to the lack of such films in Tamil cinema, "The whole country celebrated that 'Brahmanda' film. However, this phenomenon has not happened ever since its release."

Vishnu argued that the films that appeal to the audience across the country is rooted in terms of their cultural significance. "We are missing out on our roots. We should make rooted content. It will automatically translate into a pan-India film," he said. The actor cited Allu Arjun-Sukumar's Pushpa, Rishab Shetty's Kantara, Chidambaram's Manjummel Boys, and Yash-Prashanth Neel's KGF as four such "rooted" films.

"Somewhere, we are thinking that pan-India is about combinations, but this is not the case," Vishnu Vishal said referring to the tendency to cast actors from across industries just to make films appeal to a wider audience.
