Geetha Kailasam-headliner, Angammal is currently gearing up for theatrical release after bagging the Best Film Award at the New York Indian Film Festival back in June. The film, helmed by Vipin Radhakrishnan, is adapted from renowned author Perumal Murugan's short story, Kodithuni.

Speaking about how his story has been adapted for the visual medium, Perumal Murugan said that he let the director have a free hand at the story after granting adaptation rights. As per a press note, he said, "The story is mine, yet my involvement concludes with the granting of adaptation rights. Thereafter, it becomes the director’s artistic prerogative to interpret and realise it. The cinematic version departs in several respects, notably in its climax and the portrayal of the female protagonist. The narrative, originally suited to a brief twenty-five-minute film, has been elegantly expanded into a full-length feature. The director has rendered it with remarkable grace and depth.”

Angammal also stars Saran, Bharani, Mullaiyarasi, and Thendral Raghunathan in supporting roles. The film is backed by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam under the Stone Bench Films banner and by Firoz Rahim and Anjoy Samuel under the Njoy Films and Firo Movie Station banners.

Angammal tells the story of a complex relationship between an old woman named Angammal (Geetha Kailasam) and her son Pavalam (Saran Shakthi) in a Tamil Nadu village. The film explores the differences that emerge between the mother and her city-slicker son after the latter becomes a doctor and comes back to their village.

The technical team of the film comprises composer Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor, editor Pradeep Shankar, and cinematographer Anjoy Samuel. The film also had a premiere at the MAMI film festival in October 2024. It is now scheduled to hit theatres on November 7.
