Nearly a week after the release of Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, director Mohan G has condemned the film's messaging, calling it "disgusting and unacceptable". In the second half of the Keerthiswaran directorial, Pradeep marries Mamitha Baiju despite her being pregnant with Hridhu Haroon's child and later also tells the world that it is his child.
Referring to this concept in particular, director Mohan G told Tamil Janam channel, “The director is still young, and perhaps at this stage, he doesn’t fully grasp the impact of the message he’s conveying. He seems to have tried to normalise and justify the film’s ideas, but the events of the second half feel highly unrealistic. It’s disturbing to see a child—who isn’t the hero’s own—being given his initial, and even more so that such behaviour is accepted within the family. Families watching this film in theatres are bound to reject such notions. If anything, it would be better for children to discuss and debate these ideas with their parents after watching it. The film, though made under the guise of progressiveness, ends up setting a wrong example for the next generation. I simply cannot accept it.”
Also starring Sarath Kumar and Dravid Selvam, Dude recently crossed Rs 100 crores in its box office collections, marking a third for Pradeep Ranganathan after Love Today and Dragon. Sai Abhyankkar composed music for the film, making his Tamil debut. Upon release, the film, backed by Mythiri Movie Makers, received mixed reviews from critics.
Mohan G is currently busy working on Draupathi 2 starring Richard Rishi in the lead role.
