Director-actor Ameer, known for his hit films he created in the early 2000s, revealed not having the opportunity to celebrate the success of his critically acclaimed films, including Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002) and Paruthiveeran (2007). The actor, who plays a key role in Mari Selvaraj's latest film Bison Kaalamaadan, said, "From Mounam Pesiyadhe onwards, none of my films has had celebrations for its success or thanksgiving meetings. I have never had the opportunity for it as well. Even if it was a blockbuster hit, I would sit in my house. I would have the same reaction if it was a commercial flop as well. I don't come out of my house," he shared, noting that he never watches the film after it releases.
"I only watch my film until it releases. After that, I don't attend press shows or screenings. I don't want to reveal the reason for it now," he said, during the success event of Bison.
Ameer played Pandiaraja, based on the life of C Pasupathy Pandian, who was the leader of the Devendra Kulla Vellalar Kootamaipu in Bison. He also expressed his displeasure on reporters repeatedly probing the director on his "anti-caste" films. "They ask him why he is continuously making films in this genre and accusing him of creating disharmony within the society. This is a false statement. When films based on Gods whom we cannot see and ghosts, are witnessing back-to-back successes, can't we create movies on caste attrocities that we see everyday?" he asked.
Produced by Pa Ranjith and Aditi Anand under Neelam Studios in association with Applause Entertainment, Bison also features Anupama Parameshwaran, Lal, Ameer, Pasupathi, and Rajisha Vijayan. A sports drama, the film is inspired from the life and struggles of Arjuna award-winning Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan. The film was also recently released in Telugu.
Ameer's films Mounam Pesiyadhe, Raam and Paruthiveeran were critically acclaimed and well received among audiences. They became cult-classics over the years. He last directed Adhi Bhagavan, starring Ravi Mohan in the lead in 2013. Since then, Ameer has been active as an actor.
