Director Selvamani Selvaraj's Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, and Samuthirakani in the lead roles, is set to hit theatres worldwide on November 14, the film's makers announced earlier this Diwali. The film was initially slated for a September 12 release. Dulquer also produces it through his banner Wayfarer Films alongside Rana Daggubati of Spirit Media, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese. Announcing the release date, Rana wrote, "Diwali just got a whole lot more explosive! Kaantha will be lighting up theatres worldwide from November 14th! Wishing you all a happy Diwali and we’ll see you in the theatres very soon."

Samuthirakani also plays a key role in the film. The recently released Kaantha teaser shows Dulquer's hero in a film within the film receiving instructions from Samuthirakani's director character, a longtime mentor for the former. Bhagyashri portrays the heroine in the horror film within the film, opposite Dulquer's character.

A period film, Kaantha marks a comeback into Tamil cinema for Dulquer after 2022's Hey Sinamika. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, composer Jhanu Chanthar, and art director Ramalingam. Thamizh Prabha serves as its additional dialogue writer and story consultant, as well as additional screenwriter along with Sri Harsha Rameshwaram.
