The other day, the Government of Tamil Nadu presented actor Sivakumar with an Honorary Doctorate in Chennai. Chief Minister MK Stalin conferred him with the award at the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University, established by Dr J Jayalalithaa. A while ago, actor Suriya took to social media to express his gratitude to the government for its gesture towards his father. Suriya wrote, "Our heartfelt thanks to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin and Dr J Jayalalitha Music and Fine Arts University for conferring the Honorary Doctorate to my father Sivakumar for his lifelong contribution to art, cinema and social welfare."
At the event, Stalin also accepted Padma Shri award winner and Parai artiste R Velmurugan's request for land allocation to establish an educational institution to promote forms of conventional folk art.
It is worth noting that Suriya owns the Agaram Foundation, which aims to make education accessible to all. For your information, Sivakumar also participates in social welfare activities with his namesake educational trust, whose long-term work laid the foundation for Suriya's nonprofit organisation. The Sivakumar Educational Trust keeps supporting students with financial grants, awards, and so forth.
