Lingusamy: Minor mistakes in Anjaan were blown out of proportion

Lingusamy said if any other director was subjected to as much negativity, trolls and criticism as he was, they would have quit cinema

Filmmaker Lingusamy, whose 2014 film Anjaan recently got re-released after making edits and trimming around 40 minutes of footage, shared in an interview that Anjaan was the film that marked the advent of social media criticisms.

In an interview with IndiaGlitz, the filmmaker said that it was his film with Suriya that became an example of how social media can totally ruin a film by spreading negativity. "Anjaan's release and the social media boom were synchronous. It was our film that became a lesson to every filmmaker about how much to hype a film. Anjaan failed during its initial release as even minor mistakes were blown out of proportion."

He also recalled what he went through after Anjaan was panned and added that if anyone else went through the barrage of criticisms he was subjected to, they would have quit films. "I take this moment to feel grateful about my family, friends, the books I read, and the mentors I had. These were the things that kept me afloat in the midst of all the demotivating words I received for Anjaan. I am not over exaggerating, if I were someone else, he would have lost his mental balance and would have been forced to quit cinema."

Starring Suriya in the lead, the film also stars Vidyut Jammwal, Samantha, and Manoj Bajpayee in pivotal roles. The film has Krishna (Suriya), the twin brother of the dreaded and deceased gangster Raju Bhai (also Suriya), coming to Mumbai to know what really happened to his brother and who killed him. Krishna discards his guise to reveal himself as Raju, who escaped from the attempt on his life, he is set to search and eliminate those who have snitched on him.
