The makers of Dashamakan unveiled the film’s title promo and glimpse video at a special press event in Chennai, attended by the cast and crew. The film marks Harish Kalyan’s 15th outing as a lead actor and his second collaboration with director Vineeth Varaprasad after Lift. The team also presented an exclusive screening of the 2.48-minute glimpse for the media.

At the launch, Harish Kalyan spoke about taking on a rapper’s role for the first time: This is the first time a first-look launch for a film I’m part of is happening in such a grand manner. My thanks to the Dashamakan team. Many of us would have heard of Dashamakan; it’s the place that supplies curry leaves across Tamil Nadu. I play a rapper in the film. Tamil rap has a long history, and many indie artists have excelled in it; they’re all my inspiration. Music is central to this film, and Britto has done a fantastic job. I initially wondered whether I would fit this character, but when the director told me many hesitated to take up the role, I decided I had to do it. This film will definitely offer audiences a new experience.”

The film features Preity Mukhundhan as the female lead, with Sathyaraj and Sunil appearing in pivotal roles. Along with directing and writing, Vineeth Varaprasad is also producing the project.

Speaking about the journey of the film, Vineeth Varaprasad said:
“We first thought about inviting many people for the title promo, but once we decided to launch it in front of journalists, I felt genuinely happy. I didn’t get such a platform for my first film, so instead of questioning it, I chose to build my own space — that is how this film began. Over a hundred new actors, including several rap artists, have debuted through this project. Harish accepting the role was a surprise, because many hesitated before him. As this is a music-driven film, we travelled extensively to bring authentic rap into it. I’ve brought the Chennai I know—its people and its pulse—into this film.”

Dashamakan has music by Britto Michael, cinematography by Karthik Ashokan, and editing by G Madan. The film is gearing up for release in both Tamil and Telugu, with the release date yet to be announced.
