Dulquer Salmaan's latest film Kaantha has been receiving rave reviews since its first premiere to the press and media fraternity with many hailing the actor's performance as his "career best" and "outstanding". The period drama, also headlined by Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse and Rana Daggubati has also been receiving positive word-of-mouth reviews from audiences who caught an early show in theatres. While the film has been described as a "slow burn thriller" by users, many pointed out its gripping narrative driven by Dulquer's performance. One user described it as an "emotional ride through ambition, rivalry, and redemption." Many highlighted the lead cast members' acting and the way it elevates the story. Praises have also been aplenty for Dulquer Salmaan's acting with fans stating that he "deserves a National Award."

However, a section of audiences have also been criticising the film, particularly for its "slow" second half. One person said that "The film may not work for audience who are used to racy mass commercial thrillers." A few people also say that it "tests your patience" with its "tedious narration." Some were disappointed with the film, stating their expectations were let down. Despite the negatives, Kaantha has been getting unanimously positive feedback on the performances front.

Apart from the above-mentioned lead actors, Kaantha also features Ravindra Vijay, Nizhalgal Ravi, Bagavathi Perumal and Bijesh Nagesh in key roles. The film is jointly produced by Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan under their Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films banners respectively. Kaantha, which marks a comeback into Tamil cinema for Dulquer after 2022's Hey Sinamika, reportedly revolves around the rise and fall of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, who was widely regarded as Tamil cinema's first superstar.

The film's technical team includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, composer Jhanu Chanthar, and art director Ramalingam. Thamizh Prabha serves as its additional dialogue writer and story consultant, as well as additional screenwriter along with Sri Harsha Rameshwaram.
