A new group of immortals rose in India, as the Indian team won the Women's Cricket World Cup on November 2. Actor Sivakarthikeyan took to X to laud the team on their win, and reminisced about Kanaa (2018), a film which followed the story of a young girl who goes on to win the World Cup.

But back in 2018, Smriti Mandhana, who is part of the World Cup winning team, launched Kanaa's album. Speaking at the event, the cricketer said, "Special thanks to Sivakarthikeyan sir and Arunraja sir for choosing this topic for the movie. Because, I think it is a really important phase in women's cricket right now. And a movie about a women cricketer who aspires to play for India..., I think that will inspire a lot of young girls to pickup the bat and ball and start playing cricket, and win a World Cup for India. So I would like to thank them for choosing this topic. And, hopefully there are a lot more movies about this topic."

Kanaa followed the story of Kousalya Murugesan (Aishwarya Rajesh), an aspiring cricket player from an impoverished background, who through grit represents India at the Women's T20 World Cup.

After coming close to a victory in 2005 and in 2017, the Indian Women's cricket team won the Cricket World Cup, after playing the finals against South Africa. Harmanpreet Kaur was the captain of the Indian side. Shafali Verma won the Player of the Match award for the final, and Deepti Sharma was the Player of the Tournament.
