Several people from film industries across India have took to social media to congratulate the Indian Women's cricket team on their World Cup win. Amongst them was actor Sivakarthikeyan who lauded the cricket players and reminisced about Kanaa (2018), a film which he had produced.
Taking to his X handle, the actor wrote, "Congratulations to the Indian Women’s Team on this historic win! Seven years ago, Arunraja Kamaraj manifested this through Kanaa - the first-ever film on women’s cricket and our very first from my Sivakarthikeyan Productions. This win feels truly special."
Aishwarya Rajesh, Kanaa's lead, later replied to the tweet calling for a sequel to the film.
Kanaa followed the story of Kousalya Murugesan, an aspiring cricket player from an impoverished background, who through grit represents India at the Women's T20 World Cup.
After coming close to a victory in 2005 and in 2017, the Indian Women's cricket team won the Cricket World Cup, after playing the finals against South Africa. Harmanpreet Kaur was the captain of the Indian side. Shafali Varma won the Player of the Match award for the final, and Deepti Sharma was the Player of the Tournament.
Aishwarya also took to X to laud the winners. "From dreams to destiny! History has been made! Our women have conquered the world and brought glory home! A triumph of talent, grit, and heart — truly Champions in every sense," wrote the actor.
