Almost a month after its theatrical release, actor Shiva's recent comedy film Sumo will get its OTT release on Sun NXT on Friday.

The film directed by SP Hosimin, who previously made Bharath's February 14 and Shanthanu's Aayiram Vilakku, is about Shiva (Shiva) babysitting a sumo wrestler whose mental maturity is that of a toddler. Taking the wrestler under his wings, he earns a few enemies.

The film released to negative reviews upon its release on April 25. An excerpt from the CE review read, "The longevity of Shiva's distinct career is established by how self-aware the comedian-actor is. All of the films that play to his strengths have emerged as a crowd favourite. He thrives on parody—of heroism and commercial film stereotypes. However, director SP Hosimin's portrayal of Shiva, as an action hero with emotionally charged scenes feels like parody."

Sumo also stars Sathish, Yogi Babu, and Yoshinori Tashiro, among others, in prominent roles. The film, which was in the making since 2019, underwent multiple delays due to production issues and later due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ishari K Ganesh is producing the film under the Vels Film International banner.

On the technical team, Sumo has music by Nivas K Prasanna, cinematography by Rajiv Menon and editing by Praveen KL.
