The Shanmuga Pandian starrer Padai Thalaivan had its audio launch earlier today. Kombuseevi director Ponram was one of the guests at the event. Ponram, the director of Kombuseevi, also starring Shanmuga Pandian, spoke about the resemblance of the film's star and his late actor-politician father Vijayakanth. "When I first put him in the frame, I saw his eyes. I do not know what Shanmuga's eyes look like; I only saw Captain's eyes. My team said the same." Ponram added that Shanmuga Pandian would draw audiences at B and C centres, much like Vijayakanth. The filmmaker further stated that Vijayakanth's action work was inimitable, yet his son tried to do it and would get plaudits for it.

Directed by U Anbu, Padai Thalaivan is slated for a May 23 release. The cast also features director and actor Kasthuri Raja, Yamini Chander, the granddaughter of veteran filmmaker AC Tirulokchander, Munishkanth, and Rishi Rithvik. Vijayakanth will also appear in the film through AI assistance. With music by Ilaiyaraaja, Padai Thalaivan has a screenplay and dialogues by director Parthiban Desingu.
