Vairamuthu has taken to X handle to criticise filmmakers and the industry for using titles for their films from his songs. In a lengthy post, he said that he has not slammed industry professionals for taking it without asking, but is merely expecting them to extend courtesy and seek permission before using them.

The noted lyricist pointed that serveral of his lyrics from 'Ponmaalai Pozhudhu', 'Kann Sivanthaal Mann Sivakkum', 'Ilaya Nila', 'Oorai Therinjikitten', 'Poove Poochooda Vaa', 'Minsara Kanna', 'Mouna Ragam', to 'Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal', have been used as film titles. "I never scolded any of them for taking it without asking, nor did I ask them anywhere where I met them. I rejoice that in a society where wealth is not common, knowledge is common," he shared, underlined that he did not feel it was polite to ask why they had taken it without his permission.

However, Vairamuthu asked, "But isn't it their culture to do it after asking me a word?" seemingly insisting filmmakers to seek permission as a courtesy before using his lyrics as their titles.

The post has drawn several mixed reactions from readers with some underlining that his lyrics contain words that have already been in use everyday and if he would pinpoint that, then nobody could use art in any form.
