Honouring the work and legacy of late lyricist Na Muthukumar on his 50th birth anniversary, an event was held in Chennai recently.
The musical event 'Anandha Yaazhai' commemorated the works of Na Muthukumar, who has won multiple National and State awards for his lyrics. He has also authored essays and poems such as Dhoosigal, Pattampoochi Virpavan, Gramam Nagaram Maanagaram, and Aniladum Mundril. Having worked in over 1000 films, the lyricist breathed his last due to jaundice on August 14, 2016. He was 41.
It is known that the remuneration actor Sivakarthikeyan takes as a lyricist goes towards the education of Na Muthukumar's child. On being asked about his gesture, the actor responded, saying that he doesn't view this as a help but a duty. Praising the lyricist, Siva said his Tamil is spread all over. "Without Na Muthukumar sir, it feels like music composers have become one-sided lovers with no one to reciprocate. This is not to offend the current lyricists; they are doing a good job, too. It's just that Na Muthukumar left a void that remains to be filled," he said.
On a lighter note, Sivakarthikeyan said that with Na Muthukumar absent, the lyric-writing scene has turned tragic as he has turned into a lyricist now. He encouraged Na Muthukumar's son to write poems as a hobby, and he has a gift of the language.
On the work front, Sivakarthikeyan awaits the release of Madharasi, directed by AR Murugadoss. He is currently working in the period drama Parasakthi, helmed by Sudha Kongara. Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu recently said in an event that he will team up with Sivakarthikeyan next, and the film will go on floors later this year.
