The two pillars of Tamil cinema have met and embraced each other. Kamal Haasan paid a visit to Rajinikanth to share the news of becoming a Rajya Sabha MP. The former shared the news, along with photos of his visit, on his official X handle on Wednesday.

In Tamil, he wrote, "I shared the news about my new journey with my friend, Rajinikanth. I was delighted." In the photos, Kamal Haasan is seen showing his Rajya Sabha MP order to Rajinikanth, while in another, they are seen in a warm embrace.

Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan got into the Rajya Sabha, Parliament's Upper House, as a Member of Parliament, following a pre-election agreement struck with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The actor-turned-politician was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha, unopposed, along with three candidates put up by the ruling DMK and two candidates nominated by the opposition party AIADMK.

Rajinikanth also took to his official X handle to wish his fellow star on his new journey. He wrote in Tamil, "Heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend Kamal Haasan, who is about to take oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha."

The relationship between Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth goes a long way back to 50 years ago. It was in Kamal Haasan's Aboorva Ragangal that Rajinikanth made his debut as an antagonist, exactly five decades ago. Rajinikanth then worked in other Kamal Haasan films, such as Moondru Mudichu, Avargal, 16 Vayathinile, and Aadu Puli Attam, among others. Rajinikanth went on to make his debut as a main lead in Bairavi in 1978. Ever since, even though the two actors have been pitted against each other by fans, the two have only shared an enviable camaraderie.

On the work front, Kamal Haasan was last seen in Thug Life, helmed by Mani Ratnam. In the pipeline, he has a film with action choreographer duo, Anbariv. He also awaits the release of Shankar's Indian 3. Rajinikanth, on the other hand, has Lookesh Kanagaraj's Coolie slated for release on August 14. He is currently filming for Nelson's Jailer 2
