Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu's second collaboration, after Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan, Maareesan, is all set to hit theatres on July 25. In a recent interview with Ananda Vikatan, the film's director, Sudheesh Sankar, has opened up about the film's plot and the characters played by Fahadh and Vadivelu.

As per reports, Maareesan will feature Vadivelu as an Alzheimer's patient who is affluent. When Fahadh Faasil's character sees Vadivelu withdrawing a sum of money from the ATM, he devises a plan to loot him. He offers to take Vadivelu, who is en route to Thiruvannamalai, till Nagercoil on his bike. However, the two bond over the journey. Whether the former robs the latter or not forms the crux of the film.

In the interview, the filmmaker also mentioned that audiences have always seen Vadivelu in a particular style and naturally come to expect that from him, but Maareesan would showcase the actor in a completely different light. According to him, Vadivelu has taken on a deeply challenging role unlike anything he had done before. Drawing a comparison, he remarked that it was as though Fahadh Faasil ended up playing the kind of character Vadivelu was usually associated with, while the latter has played something the former usually plays. He added that there is a refreshing unpredictability in both their performances, which is something audiences have never seen from them before.

This film is Sudheesh Sankar's second Tamil directorial venture, following Aarumaname (2009). Sudheesh is well-known for his work in Malayalam television and films, such as 2014's Villali Veeran.

Vivek Prasanna will be seen as Fahadh Faasil's friend in Maareesan, while PL Thenappan and Kovai Sarala will feature as police officers. The extended cast of the film comprises Sithara, Livingston, Saravana Subbiah, Renuka, Krishna, Telephone Raja, and Haritha.

With cinematography by Kalaiselvan Sivaji, editing by Sreejith Sarang, and music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the film is produced by RB Choudary under the Super Good Films banner.
