The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has officially announced its president, actor-politician Vijay, would be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, which are to be held in 2026. The announcement was made at TVK's first state executive committee meeting held in Chennai today.
At the same meeting, the actor also announced his plans to compete with both the AIADMK-BJP alliance and the ruling DMK. Besides the resolution to nominate Vijay for the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the party also passed other resolutions, including one to launch a membership drive in the second week of July at the second state conference of TVK, which is to be held in Tiruchi or Madurai.
Starting out as a child artist, and after a 40 year career, the actor is working on his last film, Jana Nayagan, before bowing out for a full-time political career. The film which is directed by H Vinoth is set to release on January 9 2026.
The cast of the Jana Nayagan includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Narain, and Mamitha Baiju. With Anirudh composing music for the film, the rest of the crew includes Sathyan Sooryan, Pradeep E Ragav as the editor, V Selvakumar as the production designer, and Anl Arasu as the stunt master.
