Tamil filmmaker Mysskin has alleged that he was coerced into selling the television rights of his critically acclaimed film Onnayum Aattukkuttiyum for a mere ₹75 lakh. Speaking at the trailer launch of Bad Girl, the director candidly recounted the distressing experience while also apologising for remarks he had made at a previous event.

Mysskin revealed that his film faced hurdles even before its release. “I did Onnayum Aattukkuttiyum. They did not allow me to release it on the first day. People do not know. The next day, it released in the night,” he said, hinting at the challenges the project encountered.

The ordeal worsened ten days after the film's release when he was approached regarding its television rights. A well-known director, someone Mysskin described as close to him, had promised a lucrative deal and took him to a meeting. “We went into a large room. There were 20 people in that room. They said, ‘Give the television rights of this film to us for ₹75 lakh.’ I told them, ‘Sir, I have made this film with great difficulty. This is a good film. Please give me at least ₹2 crore for its television rights.’ They kept saying they couldn’t give me that amount,” he recounted.

However, what followed was deeply unsettling. “I realised then that they had 20 goondas who threatened me and made me sign the deal. They gave me ₹75 lakh. That film has been released on that channel 80 times,” Mysskin said, recalling the raw injustice of the situation.

The director added that despite being forced to accept the deal, he refused to back down emotionally. “I took that cheque, tore it before them, and said, ‘When I came to Chennai, I had only a white paper and a pencil. I come from such a poor family. I will definitely make a comeback with my hard work.’”

Mysskin also revealed that some of the people involved in this incident are no longer alive, while one key figure, whom he called a "big director," remains active in the industry. “The man who betrayed me, he is there even today. I keep experiencing betrayals every moment,” he said, underscoring the enduring pain of the experience.

Onnayum Aattukkuttiyum remains a standout in Mysskin’s filmography, celebrated for its gripping narrative and unique storytelling.
