When the date of release of Parasakthi was moved up to January 10, from January 14, social media began to heat up with debates about the move. The most common reason that was cited by the users was that Parasakthi seeks to compete with the Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, which is set to release on January 9. Parasakthi's producer Aakash Basakaran addressed these debates in a recent interview.
"Theatre owners and distributors worldwide suggested that it would be better if there is a two day or a one day difference between both releases, as there is a ten day holiday," said Aakash, when asked about the advancement in an interview with Cineulagam. He added that the theatre owners cited scheduling of shows for the both films as a reason, and that if there is a considerable difference in the release dates for both films one film would get lesser shows.
The producer also addressed the online debates surrounding the announcement of the release, which mostly pitted Parasakthi against Jana Nayagan. "There is an unnecessary controversy and clash that is being created surrounding the release," said the producer. He added, "20 years back, there were 10 films that were releasing on Pongal. 10 became five, five became three, and then it became two."
Aakash also said, "Two films releasing on the same day is fair. I don't look at it with contention, I just look at it in a healthy manner."
Parasakthi, is directed by Sudha Kongara, and stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela. Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan, is directed by H Vinoth, and also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Narain, Priyamani, Sunil, Baba Bhaskar, and Gautam Vasudev Menon.
