Suriya, who was last seen in Karthik Subbaraj's Retro, currently has three films in his kitty - Suriya 45 aka Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, Suriya 46 by Venky Atluri and Suriya 47 helmed by Jithu Madhavan. Even as Karuppu is awaiting a release date, there has been significant buzz on the genre and story behind Suriya 46.
Sharing details regarding the film in a recent interview with Gulte, producer Naga Vamsi, who is backing the project through his Sithara Entertainments banner, said, "The film explores relationships, love and emotions between a 45-year-old man (Suriya) and a 20-year-old woman (Mamitha Baiju)." Vamsi also compared Suriya's wealthy, intense character to his role in the 2005 hit Ghajini, a fact that director Venky Atluri has previously shared. Speaking about the film's genre, Venky stated, "Suriya 46 will be a proper happy family film, with a very good human emotion."
Apart from Suriya and Mamitha Baiju, Suriya 46 also stars Bhavani Sre, Radikaa Sarathkumar and senior Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon portraying key roles. It is to be noted that Raveena Tandon is acting in a Tamil film after 24 years, with her last project being Kamal Haasan's Aalavandhan (2001). The film had recently wrapped shooting.
On the technical team, GV Prakash will be scoring the music for Suriya 46. He is reuniting with Venky Atluri for the third time after Vaathi (2023) and Lucky Baskhar (2024). This is also the composer's second film with Suriya after Soorarai Pottru (2020). The technical crew also includes editor Navin Nooli and cinematographer Nimish Ravi. Suriya 46 is scheduled to be released in theatres during the summer of 2026.
Meanwhile, Suriya is also working on his 47th film, helmed by Jithu Madhavan. The yet-to-be-titled film, which went on floors recenty, also stars Naslen and Nazriya Fahadh in prominent roles and will have music composed by Sushin Shyam. Although the film has been officially launched, Suriya is expected to complete shooting for Suriya 46 before starting Jithu Madhavan's film. In the meantime, Suriya's Karuppu, helmed by RJ Balaji, is currently in post-production in the post-production stage with a release date expected to be announced soon.
