Within a few weeks into production, the makers of director Vetri Maaran's Arasan, headlined by Silambarasan have wrapped up shooting the first schedule of the film, according to reports. While an official confirmation is yet to arrive from the team, sources close to the film mentioned that the first schedule which was going on in Kovilpatti had completed filming. The next schedule is likely to begin in the first week of January after the New Year. For the unversed, the drama is a part of the director's Vada Chennai universe and is the 49th film in Silambarasan's acting career.
Besides Silambarasan, the film also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Andrea Jeremiah, reprising her role as Chandra from Vada Chennai. Heart Beat and Tourist Family-fame Yogalakshmi is also part of the much-anticipated film. A day ago, the makers shared a five minute behind-the-scenes promo, offering a peek at the sets which was filled with surprising guests. Samuthirakani, who starred in Vada Chennai (2018), as Guna, was present for the shooting. While Samuthirakani hasn't been confirmed for Arasan, his presence on the sets sparked speculations about the actor's return. Actor Soori, who was part of Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai: Part 1 and Part 2, was also present for the shoot.
Arasan's screenplay is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it. However, Dhanush soon came on board for Vada Chennai. The makers describe it as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai.” According to the first promo released a few weeks ago, the film is set to feature Silambarasan in two avatars: as a youngster and as an aged man.
The cast is also set to reportedly feature Kishore reprising his role, along with newcomers Manikandan and Nelson Dilipkumar. However, this still remains unconfirmed. Although they exist in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is not a part of Arasan.
Kalaipuli S Thanu is producing the film under his V Creations banner. It brings composer-Singer Anirudh together with Silambarasan and director Vetri Maaran for the first time. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film, including its plot, the rest of the cast, and technical crew.
