The production for Silambarasan's much-awaited film Arasan, directed by Vetri Maaran had commenced earlier this month and cast members are slowly being revealed by the actors as the start shooting for their scenes. Vijay Sethupathi was announced as part of the cast last month and Andrea Jeremiah had recently confirmed that she is reprising her role as Chandra from Vada Chennai for Arasan. For the unversed, the drama is a part of the director's Vada Chennai universe and is the 49th film in Silambarasan's acting career.

The makers shared a group photo on Friday, revealing that Vijay Sethupathi had joined the sets of the film. The photo also had Silambarasan, Vetri Maaran and another female actor in it. Eagle-eyed fans quicky noticed that the actor is Yogalakshmi, known for her supporting roles in Sasikumar's Tourist Family and the Heart Beat web series. She was seen in a traditional attire, hinting at her character playing a key role in the film. However, details regarding her role is currently unknown.

Arasan's screenplay is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it. However, Dhanush soon came on board for Vada Chennai. The makers describe it as “an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai.” According to the first promo released a few weeks ago, the film is set to feature Silambarasan in two avatars: as a youngster and as an aged man.

The cast will also reportedly feature Samuthirakani and Kishore reprising roles, along with newcomers Manikandan and Nelson Dilipkumar. However, an official confirmation regarding the same is awaited. Although they exist in the same universe, Dhanush's character Anbu is confirmed not to be part of Arasan.

Kalaipuli S Thanu is producing the film under his V Creations banner. It brings composer-Singer Anirudh together with Silambarasan and director Vetri Maaran for the first time. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the film, including its plot, the rest of the cast, and technical crew.
