Actor Vidhu, a frequent collaborator of director Karthik Subburaj, who has played supporting roles in films like Jigarthanda Double X and Retro, is all set to make his debut as a lead in Rathna Kumar's next, titled 29. Also starring Preethi Asrani, the film is backed by Karthik's Stone Bench Films and Lokesh Kanagaraj's G Squad. At the film's launch event, on Wednesday, the actor spoke about his role in 29 and said that he found himself through the film.

“This film pushed me to discover who I am. I thank director Rathna Kumar for seeing me as Sathya and giving me this opportunity. Thank you also to the producers. Karthik Subbaraj sir is the one who held my hand and introduced me to cinema. He is the reason I am standing on this stage today."

Vidhu was in praise of Sean Roldan's music for the film in particular. “I’ve listened to the two songs created for this film—both are wonderful. Sean Roldan’s voice always reminds me of the legendary Ilaiyaraaja’s voice. There is an emotion in his voice that I truly love. I learnt a lot about cinematography through this film."

Further, on what this film promises to the audience, he concluded by saying, “When people hear 29, everyone recalls their own experiences at that age. All those emotions are reflected in this film. I believe audiences will love it.”

Rathna Kumar last made Gulu Gulu in 2022, making 29 a comeback for him after three years. He has also contributed to dialogues in Lokesh Kangaraj's Master and Vikram, among others. Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Premkumar also star in key roles in the upcoming film.

Apart from music composer Sean Roldan, the film also features cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by RS Sathish Kumar. Besides Tamil, the film is also set to be released in Telugu. A release date for 29 has not been announced yet.
