After back-to-back releases in Tamil and Malayalam with Kiss and Balti, Preethi Asrani will next be seen in Rathna Kumar's 29, co-starring Vidhu. The film is backed by Lokesh Kanagaraj's G Squad and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films. During the film's launch event, the actor opened up about why 29 is a film that is very close to her heart.
She said, “Every film I act in is special to me. But 29 is particularly close to my heart. It feels like a dream come true. When I first acted in Tamil cinema, I had already heard about Stone Bench Films. People would say that working with them feels like being part of a family. I always wished to act in their production someday. Today, that wish has come true; I’m now part of their family."
Further, the actor shared that she decided to sign up for the film immediately after hearing Rathna's narration. “Karthik Subbaraj sir and Karthikeya sir believed in this story, and because of that, we all got this opportunity. When the director narrated the story to me, I immediately agreed with joy. I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me."
Preethi then said that she hopes that their efforts translate on screen for the audience to enjoy what they enjoyed while performing. "The way we felt while performing the scenes on set is what we hope you will feel as viewers. In the promo video, the question ‘Who are you?’ is posed deeply—inviting people to reflect within themselves. I hope audiences relate to it. I’ll be sharing more about the film in the coming days," she explained.
29 marks a comeback to direction for Rathna Kumar after 2022's Gulu Gulu. Meanwhile, he made contributions to the dialogues in films, such as Master and Vikram. Apart from Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, the film also has Master Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Premkumar, among others.
On the technical team, 29 has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by RS Sathish Kumar. Besides Tamil, the film is also set to be released in Telugu. A release date for 29 has not been announced yet.
