Even as Rajinikanth's Coolie is continuing its strong march around the globe in terms of box office numbers, certain social media pages have exaggerated the existing box office reports to showcase that the Lokesh Kanagaraj actioner had crossed Rs 500 crore mark globally. The film's global distributor Hamsini Entertainment has now given a statement, warning those spreading fake box office numbers about the film.
Coolie, starring an ensemble cast consisting of Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra and Rachita Ram, among others, earned Rs 151 crore across the world on its first day, becoming the highest opener for Rajinikanth as well as for Lokesh Kanagaraj. It broke records, emerging as the first Tamil film ever to make the record.
However, after the first week, collections started to dip after the festive weekend, but saw a revival in its second weekend. However, due to its unfavourable reviews, speculations arose on its overseas box office numbers, with many attesting that the film did not deliver promising numbers.
In their long statement on X, they wrote that deliberate attempt to distort, manipulate, or defame the film would be met with strong legal remedies — including claims for defamation and financial damages.
Stating it wish to clarify certain points in the interest of transparency and fairnes, the firm said,"Only producers and Hamsini Entertainment (Oveseas Distributor) will release official collection updates. Any other figures circulating online are unreliable and must not be treated as factual."
"Spreading fabricated numbers or exaggerated comparisons is not only misleading but also directly harmful to the reputation of the film, its stakeholders, and the audiences who trust us," they further said, warning of legal action against those spreading fake and exaggerated numbers to bring down the film's performance at the box office.
Backed by Sun Pictures, Coolie's countrywide collection stands at Rs 264.25 crore, 13 days after release. The film has also earned over $6.8 million across North America, thereby becoming the all time highest tamil grosser in the region. It marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth and has music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj.
