Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, grossed $3.04 million on its opening day in theatres across North America, its production banner, Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, announced. Consequently, it has become the highest-grossing Tamil film in terms of the premiere day collections in North America. The producer made the announcement with a reference to the ‘Powerhouse’ song from the film: “Thalaivan Erangi, Saritham Eluthavey” (Rajinikanth is here, creating history).

Coolie set new box office records even before its official release, with massive advance bookings. It has reportedly become the fastest Tamil film to cross the $3 million mark in the USA. According to reports, the film has minted over 100 crore in worldwide advance bookings, making it one of the biggest Indian films with regard to pre-release sales. This feat highlights the immense anticipation and fan frenzy surrounding the collaboration between Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The filmmaker, who is known for his eponymous interconnected cinematic universe, has confirmed that the Rajinikanth starrer is a standalone piece of work and not part of the LCU.

Coolie reunites Rajinikanth with his Mr Bharath (1986) co-star Sathyaraj. The star-studded cast also includes Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, among others. Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde play cameo roles in the film.
