The anticipation for the release of Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie has made some organisations take measures to avoid massive absenteeism at the workplace. Multiple companies in India and abroad have given paid time off from work to their employees on August 14, the day of Coolie's release. This may not be a new measure, as organisations have done something similar before for big-budget films. Singapore-based SB MART and Farmer Constructions PTE Ltd as well as the Madurai-based Uno Aqua Care have adopted the policy, thus eschewing the need to deal with a potentially unreasonable number of leave applications.
Interestingly, in what could also be construed as a tall claim, a person who recently went to watch Weapons said that he got Coolie tickets as compensation for the cancellation of the show for Zach Cregger's horror film. While Weapons is riding high with rave reviews from everywhere, a ticket for Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie has become even more coveted for the sheer talents associated with the film. Tickets for the film, which marks Rajinikanth’s 171st as an actor, got sold out within hours of the start of the sale window. Earlier today, the Tamil Nadu Government allowed early morning shows for the film, but tickets are not available for the first day.
Reportedly, Coolie has broken the Indian record for advance sales for premiere shows in North America, grossing over $1.7 million from Canada and the USA combined. It has also registered impressive numbers through advance bookings across the country. Trade analysts laud the pre-release momentum for the film, also starring Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, among others. Rajinikanth's star power and Lokesh’s directorial prowess make many claim that it could have one of the biggest openings in Indian cinema history.
Further amplifying the excitement around Coolie is the fact that its release coincides with Rajinikanth's golden jubilee in cinema.
