Ever since Coolie's trailer was released online, there have been several fan theories on the film's plot and have been decoding many easter eggs in it. Among other theories, many speculated that Coolie might be a time-travel film with sci-fi elements in it as Sathyaraj is seen experimenting with technology.

During the pre-release event (Telugu) of the action thriller, Lokesh Kanagaraj said, "I read all the theories surrounding the film. It surprises me as well. I was discussing the same with Sathyaraj sir. I am excited to see how the audiences will get surprised watching the film."

When the anchor asked him what difference he found while directing Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, he said, "There is no difference, both are legends. Both of them are like my eyes, and I can't say which one (is the best or how different they are)."

Lokesh also hinted at a possibility of making a direct Telugu film someday and when probed whom he would choose to cast in it, the Maanagaram filmmaker revealed he would like to work with every actor. "I have a few commitments. Let's wait and see," he stated.

In his speech, Lokesh Kanagaraj also thanked Sun Pictures for giving him this "big project" and Rajinikanth for believing and holding trust in him. Praising Nagarjuna, he said, "Like I said earlier, the one actor who made me take it as a challenge to convince him to act in this film is Nagarjuna sir. I did seven narrations and the way he acted in this film, you can see for yourself when it releases."

Slated to release in theatres on August 14, Coolie boasts an ensemble cast featuring Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Nagarjuna, and Aamir Khan, among others.

On the technical front, Coolie also has action choreography by Anbariv, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, editing by Philomin Raj, choreography by Sandy, and production design by Sathees Kumar.
