Vijay's Sachein re-release becomes box office success, earns over Rs 10 crore

The romantic comedy, which was a massive hit upon its release, was directed by John Mahendran

After Ghilli, Vijay and Genelia's Sachein is now running to packed theatres across Tamil Nadu upon its re-release. The film has been no less than a celebration at the big screens with them turning into karaoke halls. The 2005 film has brought in a steady cash flow to theatres now, earning over Rs 10 crore at the box office in Tamil Nadu.

The romantic comedy, which was a massive hit upon its release, was directed by John Mahendran. The film also featured Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu in her Tamil debut. Apart from Vijay and Genelia, the cast also featured Vadivelu, Santhanam and late actor Raghuvaran. The plot revolves around the titular character Sachein played by Vijay and Shalini, portrayed by Genelia.

Earlier on Thursday, Genelia shared a video thanking Vijay’s fans for the overwhelming response. "I am so excited to see you all flocking to theatres. 20 years ago, Sachein was released. And now at its re-release, I can see the same madness. I had an unbelievable experience shooting for the film. Your Thalapathy, how cute and sweet is he? I want to thank all the Thalapathy fans from the bottom of my heart for making Sachein’s rerelease such a festival. I hope you enjoy it because it is extremely close to your heart, and I’m sure it is to yours too."

The score and soundtrack of Sachein, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, earned widespread acclaim and all of the songs were chartbusters. Jeeva and VT Vijayan handled the cinematography and editing respectively. Sachein was produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under his banner V Creations.
