With the release of Suriya's much-anticipated film Retro just around the corner, the romantic action film seems to have cleared censorship formalities and received a U/A certificate from the CBFC.
According to the censor certificate that is being circulated online, the CBFC seems to have heavily come down on the usage of violence, gore and profanity in the film. The board has suggested to mute/modify these words, along with replacing bloody visuals, which includes dismembered body parts, in a few scenes. Interestingly, they have also asked the makers to submit NOC for using songs from other films, suggesting the film may utilise classic or nostalgic songs from yesteryear films for the cinematic moments. However, audiences will have to wait until the release to witness whether the makers have indeed placed these songs in the film.
The total duration of the film has been revealed as 2 hrs 48 mins and 30 secs. Produced by Suriya-Jyotika's 2D Entertainment and Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Films, Retro also stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead along with Jayaram, Nasser, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Karunakaran, Tamizh, Prem Kumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Sandeep Raj, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh, among others.
Retro went on floors last year, and shooting was wrapped up in October. While a previously released teaser revealed Suriya's character trying to put his life of crime behind him for the sake of his love for Pooja Hedge's character, the film's plot is largely undisclosed.
With Santhosh Narayanan as the music composer, the technical crew of the film crew comprises cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna, editor Shafique Mohamed, art director Jackson, action choreographer Kecha Khamphakdee, and costume designer Praveen Raja.
