The film opened to mixed reviews upon release on September 20 among critics and audiences

The makers of actor Sasikumar's Nandhan released the video of 'Kaala Varuthu' on Monday.

The number composed by Ghibran Vaibodha is written by Eravi and sung by Muthu Sirpi.

Era Saravanan is the writer and director for Nandhan. Balaji Shakthivel and Samuthirakani also star in this upcoming film, which has been shot in parts of Thanjavur and Pudukkottai. The film has long been in the making; its first look was released through Udhayanidhi Stalin on social media in 2022.

The film opened to mixed reviews upon release on September 20 among critics and audiences. The CE review of the film reads, "While Nandhan might have had its heart in the right place, the film ultimately falters in truthfully capturing the plight of the oppressed with sensitivity. Nandhan had its focus trained on making us weep for such injustice. However, as the credits roll, it is hard to shake off the question: Does the film want us to empathise with the oppressed or pity them?"

The makers are yet to reveal further details about the plot of the film. On the technical front, Nandhan has Saran as the cinematographer and Nelson Anthony as editor.

The film released on September 20 alongside Hiphop Adhi's Kadaisi Ulaga Por, Kaali Venkat's Dhonima, and Harish Kalyan's Lubber Pandhu.
