Director Shankar took to his social media on Sunday to express his upset over copyright infringement for the Tamil novel 'Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari', for which he holds the rights.

His post read, "Attention to all ! As the copyright holder of Su. Venkatesan's iconic Tamil novel "Nava Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari", I'm disturbed to see key scenes being ripped off & used without permission in many movies. Really upset to see important key scene from the novel in a recent movie trailer. Kindly refrain from using the scenes from the novel in movies, web series and any medium, Respect creators' rights! Refrain from Unauthorized adaptations of scenes, Refrain from infringement or face legal action!"

Shankar has earlier expressed his desire to make the novel into a full-length feature film, with many speculating it will be his next project after Indian 3, which is expected to release next year. Shankar also has the Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer in the pipeline. His most recent release, the Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2, released earlier this year to mostly negative reviews.
