Following the earlier announcement that the first single from the upcoming Rajinikanth film Vettaiyan, titled 'Manasilaayo,' will be released on September 9, the makers have revealed an interesting update on the same. The voice of a famous singer will be brought back for the song, presumably through AI.

While people are speculating that the said singer could either be S P Balasubrahmanyam or Malaysia Vasudevan, no official confirmation has been made. Notably, S P Balasubrahmanyam was a constant playback singer in many of Rajinikanth's films, particularly for the 'hero introduction' songs.

Some prominent examples of using AI to regenerate a late singer's voice in Tamil cinema include AR Rahman using Bamba Bakya's voice for the song 'Thimiri Yezhuda' from Lal Salaam, and Yuvan Shankar Raja using Bhavatharini's voice for the song 'Chinna Chinna Kangal' from The Greatest of All Time.

Anirudh is the music composer for Vettaiyan. This marks Anirudh's fourth collaboration with Rajinikanth. Other technical members include cinematographer SR Kathir and editor Philomin Raj.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan stars an ensemble cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan (in his Tamil debut), Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and VJ Rakshan. Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth are reuniting for this film after 33 years. Their last film was Hum, which was released in 1991.

The cast had recently finished dubbing for their portions in the film. Vettaiyan is scheduled to hit theatres on October 10 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
