As Vaazhai continues to win applause from all corners of society, actor Rajinikanth registered his wishes to the film's crew.

The film, directed by Mari Selvaraj, is a biopic of the director. Vaazhai is about a child who is subjected to work at a banana plantation against his own wishes, when he rather wants to spend time in school and play with his friends. He escapes death by a whisker as he skips a day at work when tragedy strikes.

Rajinikanth, in an official note, wrote that the scenes where the boy is pressurised to work were a vicarious experience. He added it was heartbreaking when Sivanaindhan's mother realises her folly and regrets chasing his son away from having even a morsel of food.

Mari Selvaraj thanked the actor's wish, saying, "This is my super day only because of our super star." He added, saying he is penning this thank-you post with the tender fingers of that child who used to collect Rajinikanth's photos and store them in a trunk box.

The film which was released on August 23, received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Based on a true story, Vaazhai explores the lives of young school-going teenagers Sivanaindhan (Ponvel) and Sekar (Raghul) whose families have been carrying banana stalks for generations. Vaazhai stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki. It marks the debut of Mari Selvaraj as a producer; he produced it with his wife, Divya.

On the technical front, Vaazhai has cinematography by Theni Eswar, editing by Suriya Pradhaman, and music by Santhosh Narayanan.
