Actor Sai Pallavi, who is awaiting the release of her much-awaited film Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, revealed that she was skeptical about signing the film. Known for being selective about her films and roles, the actor said that it’s easy for filmmakers to chop out women actors’ scenes in male-centric films and mentioned that she made director Rajkumar Periyasamy promise her scenes wouldn’t be cut in the film.

In a recent interview with Behindwoods, she explained, "Most of the time, in biopics or male-driven films, the makers easily cut out the heroine’s portions, citing length issues. So, I asked Amaran's director, Rajkumar, to put it in writing that he wouldn’t do that to me. Of course, I took that liberty with him, and he assured me that my character, Indhu Rebecca Varghese, is as important to the film as Major Mukund Varadarajan."

Sai Pallavi also spoke about how her being choosy over the kinds of roles to pick brings about a certain sense of disadvantage to her as an actor. "I know that having certain principles with respect to the kind of roles I do, the kind of costumes I wear, and the kind of inputs I bring to the table have not always given me a steady stream of work. I am completely okay with it because I don’t want that kind of growth anyway," she added.

Elucidating the reason behind choosing challenging roles, she said, "Taking on challenging characters helps actors develop a process. It allows the passion to continue. It allows magic to be created. The thing is, ordinary characters can get exhausting after a point. That can create burnout in actors."

Amaran, which hits theatres during the festive occasion of Diwali, tells the story of late army officer Major Mukund Varadarajan. The story is based on Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh's book India's Most Fearless.

Amaran stars Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment. Mukund Varadarajan was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his act of bravery during a counterterrorism operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.

The technical crew also has cinematography by CH Sai, editing by Kalaivanan, and stunt direction by Stefan Richter. Amaran is being bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International along with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Upon release on October 31, the film will clash with Jayam Ravi's Brother and Kavin's Bloody Beggar.
