Anandaraj is known for his villain characters in multiple films, most notably Baasha, Surya Vamsam, and Pokkiri. The actor is again playing a similar role in a new gangster film titled Madras Mafia Company, reports the Times of India. The film marks the directorial debut of AS Mukundan and also stars Samyuktha Shan as a cop. With a story by V Suganthi Annadurai, the film is set against the backdrop of North Chennai. The story writer is also producing it through the Anna Productions banner.
According to the filmmaker, the story revolves around the dynamics between Anandaraj's don and Samyuktha's police officer characters, two people who are at the opposite ends of the legal spectrum. Mukundan told the Times of India, "The story is about the downfall of a don who has been powerful for over two decades. Samyuktha's character is the newly appointed police officer who tries to nab him."
Anandaraj's more recent works are known for their comic touch, especially in films such as Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Conjuring Kannappan. However, as per the maker, Madras Mafia Company will feature the actor in a role that is unlike such characters and more like his yesteryear villains. "If there is a male don character in a film, then their opponent will always be a male police officer. But we wanted to create an energetic female character as the opponent," said the filmmaker.
The cast of the film also includes Munishkanth, Deepa, Sasilaya, Rams, and Anand Babu. It has cinematography by Ashok Raj, music by Srikanth Deva, editing by Devaraj, and lyrics by Ku Karthik.
