The makers of Tharunam, starring Kishen Das and Smruthi Venkat in the lead roles, have announced that the film will have a Pongal 2025 release in theatres. Arvindh Srinivasan, known for the 2022 film Dejavu, wrote and directed the film. It is his second film as a director; his first one being the 2022 Arulnithi starrer.

Produced by Pugazh and Eden of Zhen Studios, the film also stars Raj Ayyappa and Bala Saravanan. The makers released a teaser featuring the leads earlier this year that hinted at a romance film with some action. In a previous conversation with CE, the director stated, "The film shows how these two characters meet for the first time and fall in love. It is also about how they overcome a series of problems." The makers wrapped production on the film back in December last year.

On the technical side, it has music by Darbuka Siva, cinematography by Raja Bhattacharjee, editing by Arul Elango Siddharth, as well as stunts by Don Ashok and C Prabhu.

Besides Tamil, Tharunam will also release in theatres with dubts in Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
