Actor Kasthuri Shankar faces flak for anti-Telugu comments, goes missing

The Chennai Egmore police has filed charges against the actor under many Bharat Nagrik Suraksha Samhita provisions

According to reports, actor Kasthuri Shankar has gone missing after facing social media backlash for her recent remarks regarding Telugu people. Recently, Kasthuri stated that the people trace their lineage to courtesans in ancient kingdoms in India. Reportedly, the comments caused outrage and complaints against the actor in Madurai and Chennai.

According to a News18 report, the police acted as soon as she made the remarks, which are regarded as derogatory. Legal notices have been delivered to the actor, but the cops found her house locked. Reports suggest that the actor is missing, without any inkling to her whereabouts. The Chennai Egmore police has filed charges against the actor under many Bharat Nagrik Suraksha Samhita provisions.

Following the backlash, Kasthuri conveyed through social media that she did not mean the comments to be offensive and apologised for whatever hurt her remarks caused. The actor claimed that her comments pertained to a historical section, not the whole community, and that they have been taken out of context.
