Writer Indra Soundar Rajan is no more

Indra has to his credit not just short stories and novels, but he has also penned television serials and film screenplays

Celebrated Tamil author Indra Soundar Rajan, known for his works in the spiritual and supernatural realms, has passed away on Sunday. He was 65.

The initial reports have indicated that Indra fell after slipping in the bathroom in his Madurai residence, and he succumbed to injury he sustained during the fall. Indra has to his credit not just short stories and novels, but he has also penned television serials and film screenplays.

Born as Soundar Rajan on November 13, 1958, in Salem to Parthasarathy and Indra, he added his mother's name as his pen name. He worked in the TVS group of companies for some years before turning into a full-fledged writer. With spirituality being his core focus, his writings usually carry themes such as reincarnation, supernatural occurences and divine interventions. Indra was praised for popularising spiritual knowledge by combining religious beliefs and thriller elements, thereby making his stories mainstream.

Some of his popular writings are Sornajaalam, Maayamaaga Pogiraargal, Ragaisyamaai Oru Ragasiyam, Vittu Vidu Karuppa, Iyandira Paravai and Rudra Veenai. He was regular collaborator with television director Naga. Their collaboration in the popular Tamil TV series Marmadesam is still hailed as one of the best works ever in the Tamil TV space.

Indra also worked in films such as Sringaram (2007), Anandhapurathu Veedu (2010), Iruttu (2019) and Kattil (2023). His works were also adapted in Hindi TV serials such as Krishnadasi, Kaal Bhairav Rahasya and Kaal Bhairav - Ek Naya Rahasya.
