For the past few days, there have been speculations that actor Sathyaraj has joined the upcoming Lokesh Kanagaraj film with Rajinikanth, titled Coolie. On Wednesday, Sathyaraj confirmed the news while addressing the media at a press meet for Vijay Antony's Mazhai Pidikkadha Manithan.

Sathyaraj is set to work again with Rajinikanth in the latter's 171th film after 38 years. The duo paired last in Mr Bharath which was released in 1986. At the meeting, the actor said, "Yeah, it is official, I am onboard Coolie. Can expect an official announcement from the makers soon."

The speculations regarding Sathyaraj's casting in Coolie were rife after a YouTube video on the channel run by actor Chithra Lakshmanan went viral, where he says he had a conversation with Sathyaraj about his lineup and the latter said he would play Rajini's friend in his upcoming film, and he would play the antagonist in Salman Khan's next with AR Murugadoss titled Sikkandar.

On him being a part of Sikkandar, Sathyaraj further said, "But with regards to Salman Khan's Sikkandar, there is an agreement that only the production company can officially reveal. But don't ask if I have signed the agreement because I said so, whether I have or have not signed the agreement should also be revealed only by the makers."

In recent times, another speculation making rounds about Sathyaraj was that he is set to essay the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an upcoming biopic. Commenting on that rumour, he said, "I would like to play Narendra Modi in the PM's biopic provided it contains the full truth about him. In that case, if my guru Manivannan, who is no more, or directors like Mari Selvaraj, Vetrimaaran or Pa Ranjith plan to make Narendra Modi's biopic I will essay his role for sure."

Written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, editing by Philomin Raj, stunts by Anbariv, and production design by Sathees Kumar. The dialogues for the film are written by Lokesh along with Chandhru Anbazhagan, who has also written the additional screenplay for the film.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner, Coolie is scheduled to release in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada. The film is expected to go on floors from June.
