In October last year, 2D Entertainment made the official announcement for Suriya's 43rd film, helmed by Sudha Kongara. With a title glimpse, the makers unveiled the second half of the title to be Puranaanooru.

On Monday, the production house announced that the film will take more time to go on floors. An official note read, "Puranaanooru requires more time. This collaboration is very special and close to our hearts. We are working towards giving you our best. We will be going on floors very soon."

Puranaanooru also stars Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya, and Vijay Varma. The latter will be making his Tamil film debut with the film. The film's music is composed by GV Prakash, which will be his 100th film as a music composer.

The upcoming film is to be produced by Jyotika, Suriya and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian on behalf of Suriya's production house, 2D Entertainment. Other details regarding the technical crew are awaited.
