It was reported earlier that there could be a second part to the 2020 Nayanthara starrer Mookuthi Amman and that it was in the works. Earlier tonight, Mookuthi Amman production banner Vels Film International confirmed the sequel, starring Nayanthara in the titular role of a goddess. Vels Film International Chairman Ishari K Ganesh also returns as the producer for the film.

Mookuthi Amman revolves around a struggling reporter named Engels Ramasamy (RJ Balaji) who teams up with a local goddess (Nayanthara) to expose a fake godman named Bhagavathi Baba (Ajay Ghosh), exploiting their community.

Also starring Moulee, Urvashi, and Smruthi Venkat, Mookuthi Amman released directly on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020. The original film's cast also includes Indhuja Ravichandran and Yashika Aannand. The original supporting cast and actor-director RJ Balaji are expected to return for the sequel as well. However, the makers are yet to confirm the same. Only Nayanthara's return is greenlit for now.
