A biopic of the historical war hero of Tamil Nadu, Velu Nachiyar, is being developed by producer JM Bashir under the Trends Cinemas banner. The film, titled Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar is helmed by R Aravintha Raj and will star debut actor Ayisha in the titular role.

On Thursday, the makers announced that veteran music director AR Rahman will score music for the upcoming biopic. 

Ayisha is the daughter of producer JM Bashir, who has previously played the role of  Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar in the film Desiya Thalaivar. The film, which is also helmed by Aravintha Raj, is set to hit theatres next month. JM Bashir will be seen as Periya Maruthu in Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar.

Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar was launched in Chennai on Wednesday. In an official statement, the producer said, "We are very proud to bring Velu Nachiyar's biography to the screen. It is a great pleasure to have my daughter Ayisha in the lead role."

J Sridhar will crank the camera for Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar which is set to go on floors after the release of Desiya Thalaivar. More details about the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed by the makers.
