According to reports, actor Kamal Haasan has completed filming his portions for the Chennai schedule of Indian 2. Sources further state that the actor has been simultaneously shooting for Indian 3. However, a third part in the franchise is yet to be officially confirmed by the makers.

The sequel to Shankar's 1996 film was announced in 2017 and went through numerous production delays. With Shankar returning to the director's chair, the ensemble cast of Indian 2 stars Kajal Aggarwal, Sj Suryah, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, and Samuthirakani, among others.

Reports state that apart from Chennai, Rajahmundry, Bhopal and Gwalior, the filming for Indian 2 also took place on locations in Johannesburg and Taiwan. With cinematography by Ravi Varman, the film has editing by Sreekar Prasad and music by Anirudh. The film is being produced by Lyca Productions and is yet to recieve an official release date.
